It’s a wrap on the CIC's“Greater Bay Area BIM Information Technology Application Innovation Seminar". Led by Ir Albert CHENG, Executive Director of the CIC, together with over 30 industry professionals, participated in a two-day visit to pioneering enterprises in the Greater Bay Area (GBA), to get a firsthand understanding of the current application of domestic BIM in the mainland, aimed to strengthen interaction and communication within the GBA, spark business opportunities, and create synergies.
The delegation first visited the New-Type Urban Infrastructure Demonstration and Smart Building Industrial Park (Phase 1) in Baiyun District, Guangzhou, developed by the China Construction Science and Industry Group. This commercial project embraces "digital design, industrialised construction, and intelligent management," with BIM embedded across design, production, construction, and operation phases. Its "intelligent building platform for prefabricated construction" integrates digital technology throughout the entire lifecycle of the buildings, while a prefabricated steel-concrete composite frame structure, achieving over 90% prefab-rate, effectively shortens construction time.
The delegation subsequently visited the South China headquarters of Glodon, gaining insights into their journey in developing digital products, the practical applications of their BIM solutions, and exploring the role and potential of artificial intelligence in improving architectural design.
Day two featured a visit to the Shenzhen Smart Industrial Building for the Manufacturing of Eyeglasses, and a productive discussion with representatives from the Shenzhen Construction Engineering Group, PKPM, YJK Building Software and the Sware respectively. The discussions have yielded fruitful outcomes and broadened practitioners’ knowledge on the potential of domestic BIM software.
The rise of BIM in the mainland provides room for development opportunities for local enterprises. Digital technology is crucial for the development of the construction industry, and this visit further helps the industry to gain a deeper understanding of the R&D, application, and promotion of domestic BIM, providing a foundation for future collaboration among counterparts in the GBA.
