The CIC consistently encourages the industry to apply smart construction throughout the entire building lifecycle, improving efficiency from design to construction and operation. Recently, Ir Thomas HO, Chairman of the CIC, led industry representatives on a visit to Macau to visit the Project of Design and Construction of Fourth Marine Bridge between Macau and Taipa, the Macao Light Rail Transit Extension Hengqin Line Project, and the Galaxy Phase 4 project. A meeting was also held with Macau Construction Association to exchange ideas on the application of and safety management.
The Macao Light Rail Transit Extension Hengqin Line Project has used BIM since the design stage, enabling optimisation of design solutions and providing visualised construction processes, including real-time data monitoring of the shield tunneling machine. On the other hand, the Project of Design and Construction of Fourth Marine Bridge between Macau and Taipa utilised simulation to simulate the lifting operation, ensuring a smooth installation even under the influences of tides and wind.
Furthermore, Ir HO praised the Galaxy Macau Phase 4 project for effectively utilising technology to enhance safety and productivity. For example, "Eagle Eye" CCTV systems were installed on machines to detect smoking or other safety violations, and the construction site is fully digitalised using BIM and 3D scanning images. Currently, safety performance of the site was perfect, but Ir HO reminded the team to not be complacent as safety is always our first priority.
